Aquarium Programs

Self-Guided Tours
Grades Pre K - 12
Set your own pace to explore galleries that interest you and your students the most. Trained Volunteer Interpretive Guides stationed throughout the Aquarium are eager to help answer questions.
Fee: $5.00 per student

Guided Tours
Grades 3-12
You and your students will be immersed in a guided overview of the Aquarium, led by our Education Staff. After reviewing the highlights from the mako shark model to Dolphin Bay, you and your chaperones can lead a more in-depth exploration.
Fee: $6.50 per student
Maximum: 30 students

Gallery Programs
Grades 3 - 12
Enjoy an in-depth look at some of the most fascinating aspects of the Gulf of Mexico. Program topics include coral reefs, sea turtles, sharks, marine careers, marine debris, marine mammals, and jellyfish.
Fee: $6.50 per student (includes Self-Guided Tour)
Maximum: 60 students

Behind-the-Scenes
Grades 3 - 12
Join a member of our Education Staff and receive an up-close and personal look at how the Aquarium functions. All participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
Fee: $6.50 per student (includes Self-Guided Tour)
Maximum: 20 students

Shoreline Encounters
Grades 3 - 12
Students will enjoy this hour-long journey to the Aquarium’s backyard shore. Students will observe beach inhabitants and collect oceanographic data using scientific sampling gear. An alternate, indoor program will be provided in case of foul weather.
Fee: $6.50 per student (includes Self-Guided Tour)
Maximum: 30 students

Our Fair Feathered Friends
Grades K-1
Shake a tail feather as you examine and identify various beaks, feet, and feathers of birds from the Gulf of Mexico.
Fee: $9.00 per student
Maximum: 30 students

SeaLab Programs

Conducted in our SeaLab facility, each hands-on education program is designed for a specific age group. All programs are two hours in length unless otherwise noted. Contact us at 361-881-1307 or reserve@txstateaq.org for reservations at least two weeks in advance.

Bay Bytes
Grades 5 - 12
Is Corpus Christi Bay a healthy place to live? For an hour and fifteen minutes, students will become marine biologists, test the bay water, and even use computers to analyze their results!
Fee: $4.00 per student

Float Your Boat
Grades 4 - 5
Join us and learn buoyancy principles. Students will discover what boats and fish have in common. You’ll learn to wear a personal flotation device and test the buoyancy of a canoe.
Fee: $4.00 per student
Maximum: 30 students

Fins, Tails, and Scales
Grades 4-5
Study the anatomy of fish and learn the importance of resource management. Students will wet a line and try their luck at fishing.
Fee: $4.00 per student
Maximum: 40 students

Foul Play
Grades 6-12
Amazing marine populations await your discovery when you examine and classify the microscopic and larger communities on a variety of hard surfaces.
Fee: $4.00 per student
Maximum: 40 students

The Wonderful Wetlands*
* 3 hours
Grades 9-12
Students will enjoy this opportunity to study flora and fauna when they take a canoe trip into a wetland. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to get wet and muddy. An alternate, indoor program will be provided in case of foul weather.
Fee: $5.00 per student
Maximum: 20 students

What is a Watershed?
Grades 5
Discover the in and outs and ups and downs of watershed and the water cycle! Students will use a scale model of the Nueces River Basin and learn how humans impact habitats and ecosystems.
Fee: $4.00 per student
Maximum: 30 students

Camp-in Programs

Sleep with the fishes of the deep blue sea! All camp-in programs include dinner and breakfast. Texas State Aquarium patches are available for additional fee. Contact us at 361-881-1307 or email reserve@txstateaq.org for reservations at least two weeks in advance.

ZZZs Under the Seas
Ages 7 - 18
Experience the wonders of the deep as you spend the night in the Aquarium. Camp-in with the sharks, tarpon, and other creatures of the Gulf of Mexico! The program includes guided and behind-the-scenes tour, dive show and games.
Fee: $40.00 per person
Time: 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 a.m.
Minimum: 20 people
Maximun: 100 people

Girl Scout Wildlife Patch
Ages 7-10
This adventure is geared just for Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts! What a great way to earn your Wildlife Patch! Explore the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico and sleep with the fishes.
Fee: $40.00 per person
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.
Minimum: 20 people
Maximum: 75 people

Scouting Under the Sea
Ages 7-10
Cub Scouts, this is for you! You can earn your Wildlife Conservation Belt Loop or Academic Pin. Learn about natural resources, endangered species, how animals protect themselves in the wild, and what we can do to protect them and their environments.
Fee: $40.00 per person
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.
Minimum: 20 people
Maximum: 75 people

Oceanography
Ages 11-18
Learn about water properties, waves and tides, and much more during this program geared for secondary science classes, and Boy Scouts interested in earning the Oceanography merit badge.
Fee: $50.00 per person
Time: 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Minimum: 20 people
Maximum: 35 students

C.O.A.S.T.
Ages 10-12
This 2-day science adventure for 5th grade students is all about oceanography and marine biology.  Our pier transforms into an outdoor science lab where students explore the tools, concepts, and methods of marine biology, spend a night in the Aquarium, then dive right into the habitats and organisms of the Gulf Coast, collecting and studying live specimens from our own bay.  Students meet expectations in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for science, mathematics, social studies, and English language arts.   All this is blended with journaling, skits, problem solving, the scientific method, and much, much more.
Fee: $70.00 per person; and $50.00 per extra adult
Time: Day 1, 9:00 a.m. - Day 2, 4:00 p.m.
Minimum: 20 people
Maximum: 60 students

Outreach Programs

Experience the Gulf of Mexico in your classroom! Programs are offered according to grade level and feature interactive opportunities. Contact us at 361-881-1204 or sealab@txstateaq.org for outreach reservations at least two weeks in advance. Additional fees will apply for programs outside a 20-mile radius.

Seaside Shells
Grades 1-4
Discover beautiful homes for interesting animals. Students will identify different shells that may be found on Texas beaches.
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

The Great Jetty Mystery
Grades 1-4
Visit a jetty community and help the bumbling Shorelock Scales solve a mystery. Students will meet a wave, barnacle, stone crab, and sea urchin as they investigate the possibilities.
Fee: $200.00 per program; $80.00 each additional program

The Saga of Sea-leste
Grades 1-4
Help a hatchling sea turtle find its way to the sea. Students will meet a variety of sea creatures that teachSea-leste the facts of life through their special adaptations.
Fee: $200.00 per program; $80.00 each additional program

Coral Reef Under Construction
Grades 1-4
Explore underwater worlds on this tour of a lifetime. Students will view coral reefs – some of the world’s most beautiful and valuable ecosystems – then create a coral reef on their own!
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

Jellyfish Jampions!
Grades 3-5
It’s the funniest game show to ride the waves! Students chosen from the “student-o” audience will don jellyfish costumes to prepare for the challenge.
Fee: $200.00 per program; $80.00 each additional program

Chowin' with the Coral
Grades 5-12
Don’t get left out at the dinner table. Students will discover how coral polyps feed and create their unique reef system. The program also addresses factors that are causing coral reefs to disappear.
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

Marine Careers
Grades 5-12
Explore the possibilities! The program includes information on education requirements, job opportunities, and a look at the types of people required to run a world-class facility like the Texas State Aquarium.
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

Sharks
Grades 5-12
Learn more about these predators of the deep and find out how much of their bad reputation they deserve. The program discusses aspects of shark biology and conservation efforts.

Turtle Hurdles
Grades 5-12
Discover the plight of endangered sea turtles. The program includes sea turtle biology, population decline, and conservation efforts.

Jellyfish - Floating Phantoms
Grades 5-12
Pulse through for a closer look at those fascinating creatures that you'd prefer to keep at arm's length! Live and preserved jellyfish reinforce the presentation.

Waterbirds
Grades 5-12
Over 490 species of birds can been found in the Coastal Bend of Texas. Discover the beauty of these unique, feathered creatures.
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

Oceanography
Grades 5-12
Dive into oceanography and learn about the deep blue sea. Physical, chemical, and biological aspects areintegrated through hands-on demonstrations.

All That Trash
Grades 5-12
Learn all the dirty things about garbage! Students will learn how marine debris is a danger to animals through entanglement and ingestion, and what they can do to help.
Fee: $100.00 per program; $40.00 each additional program

Ocean in a Box
Take a trip to the ocean and never even leave your classroom! Examine shark, sea turtle, and bird biofacts; shells, and corals.
